Active Query Builder for .NET (WinForms and WPF) 3.1 is released.

We're glad to announce the new version of Active Query Builder 3 for .NET WinForms and WPF Editions. You can evaluate the new version by requesting the trial. Customers can download the new version in the Customer's area.

We've put a lot of efforts to make the new major version as fast and stable as possible. Of course, there are many nice features that we've announced but haven't finished yet. You can treat our promises as our to-do list for this year.

In the next minor version, we will add the new sidebar panel to replace all modal property dialogs.

What's new in the Active Query Builder for .NET version 3.1 since version 3.0?

  • The minimal version of .NET framework for WinForms edition is raised to 4.0.
  • User interface made with DevExpress controls is made for WinForms Edition. (available in Professional subscriptions only).
  • Chinese (Taiwan) translation is added.
  • The Flat view mode for the Database Schema Tree control is made. You can choose between the list view and tree view modes now. The new property QueryBuilder.DatabaseSchemaTreeOptions.ViewMode is added. Set it to Flat to turn the control into list view mode. The default value is Tree.
  • Query Navigation Bar: Reordering of unions and addition of existing CTEs or derived tables is possible with drag'n'drop now.
  • Query Navigation Bar gets scrolled in the case of a large list of unions or sub-queries; the new QueryNavigationBar.PopupMaxHeight property is made.
  • Recognition of date and string literals, and lists of literals in the IN clause is improved in Criteria columns. Items in parentheses after the IN keyword are quoted automatically now.
  • Definition of relationships between objects in the Metadata Container using alternate names is possible now.
This allows you to add one object with different alternate names which are useful when it can be used in different roles. For example, if a table refers to itself holding information about child and parent items, you can add it to the Metadata Container twice with "child_items" and "parent_items" alternate names, then add a reference from child to parent. It'll be much easier for end-user to create a child-to-parent relationship in the query.
The MetadataForeignKey.ReferencedObject property now accepts alternate names.
  • Query Statistics: New properties are added to the StatisticsOutputColumn class to ease determination of the origin of a column in case it comes from derived table or CTE: OriginDatasource, OriginMetadataObject and OriginMetadataField.
  • Data type computation in expressions has been made for Oracle.
  • Oracle: Database links support is made.
  • Sybase: Metadata retrieval from SAP IQ is possible now.
  • Several fixes and improvements for tooltips have been made.
  • The new demo projects are added for C# language (WinForms and WPF): Query Transformer demo, Query UI Events demo, Interface Customization demo, Datasource Fields Linking by Drag'n'Drop demo, Alternate Names demo, Drag'n'Drop demo, Custom Columns demo, Non-Visual demo, Load Metadata demo.
  • SQL Text Editor: Navigation with the Ctrl key and word wrapping are fixed.
  • Other bugfixes and improvements have been made.

We have been using Active Query Builder for over a year and must say that both the product and support have been outstanding!

We chose Active Query Builder due to its flexibility and features, but have been truly pleased by its power and hidden capabilities. ...

In summary Active Query Builder provides excellent components, great support and a very flexible feature set. It has allowed us to provide features to our end users that I did not think would be possible in the first release of our new tools and in a timeframe that was much shorter than planned. I would recommend that anyone dealing with databases in the .Net world should be aware of this component and its capabilities!
