What's new in the Active Query Builder VCL and ActiveX Editions version 1.31?

  • Support for RAD Studio 11 Alexandria.
  • Filter fields in datasources

Now users can filter fields in datasources on the Design Pane.

Use the "Ctrl+F5" shortcut in the field list to pop the filter box up or click on the ellipsis button at the top of each datasource. Type to filter. Press Escape to clear the text, click again to hide the filter box.

The new "Hide unused fields" command is expected to be available soon.

  • Other UI improvements
    • Users now can create links from UI separately indicating the beginning and end field via the datasource field context menu.
    • Criteria Builder: Filtration and search with highlighting in the suggestion grid is made.
    • The component generates short object aliases for objects added to the query if the TacQueryBuilder.GenerateShortObjectAliases is set to True.
    • Images are scaled properly now.
  • SQL Text Editor introduces gutter lanes

Programmers can create interactive lanes on the gutter in order to build feature-rich interfaces to work with SQL scripts.

This screenshot is taken from the FlySpeed SQL Query app to show how lanes can be organized in your application.

The appearance and mouse click handling of lanes is completely up to the programmer. It's described in the Knowledge Base article: How to work with SQL Text Editor gutter lanes.

Significant SQL Text Editor performance improvements are expected to be made next month.

  • Other API changes and improvements
    • The new property QueryBuilder.SwapSidePanels has been added to swap the Database Schema Tree and the Query Structure Tree.
    • Now you can assign an SQL script with DECLARE and SET statements preceding the SELECT query to the TacPlainTextSQLBuilder.SQL property.
The component will bypass statements preceding the first SELECT statement, lets you edit the SELECT statement, and get back the script with the preceding statement and the modified SELECT statement.
    • TacSQLScript: New helpers to load and save the script to/from file and stream are added.
    • TacSQLScript: The SqlStatement property is renamed to Statements.
    • TacSQLStatement: The new IsSelect property is added.
    • TacSQLStatement: The Start property is renamed to StartPos, the new EndPos property is added.

Testimonials

We have been using Active Query Builder for over a year and must say that both the product and support have been outstanding!

We chose Active Query Builder due to its flexibility and features, but have been truly pleased by its power and hidden capabilities. ...

In summary Active Query Builder provides excellent components, great support and a very flexible feature set. It has allowed us to provide features to our end users that I did not think would be possible in the first release of our new tools and in a timeframe that was much shorter than planned. I would recommend that anyone dealing with databases in the .Net world should be aware of this component and its capabilities!
