Dear visitors of Active Query Builder web site.
Let me present to your attention some information about the current development and future plans of our team for Active Query Builder.
Active Query Builder WinForms .NET and VCL Editions.
Work for the next major version is coming to an end. We will be releasing it next month. For now we are finishing the new Database Schema Tree and applying final changes to the Metadata Container. These changes will result in needlessness of initial filling of the Metadata Container, so the component will start almost instantly. All the necessary information about database schema will be loaded by demand.
In the development of our component, we consistently strive to virtualize the visual query building environment, to abstract the end-user interface from the physical database structure, while maintaining the ability to use the full power of SQL language. Having made the ability to override the names of database objects and their fields, to define virtual objects and fields masking complex expressions and sub-queries, we make a new step in this direction: ability to define virtual database schema tree.
Also I am glad to inform you that the documentation is written in lockstep with the new major version and it will be released same day in complete.
Meanwhile, the current version of the component implements the new functionality and gets minor bug fixes and syntax improvements. The WinForms edition now consumes less memory and has better performance; memory leaks are eliminated. Among the other changes in the current version, compared with initial release of the last minor version, are the following: ability to retrieve foreign keys and other improvements for SQLite databases, ability to create joins in WHERE clause instead of using ANSI joins, and ability to add links between objects by identical field names automatically. We will publish the news story for the minor version at the web site soon; for now you may review the appropriate history pages at the web site.
Active Query Builder ASP.NET Edition.
A month after release of the new minor version 0.5 which has been fairly stable and introduced many useful options to customize the end-user interface, we are almost ready to release the new version which will receive the new database schema tree that we are preparing for the new major version of WinForms Edition. After that we will take a month or two to implement the ability to work with sub-queries the same way as the WinForms and other editions of Active Query Builder.
Regarding the WPF and Silverlight Editions, we have to tell that their releases are delayed for a few months. Unfortunately we are short of resources and we cannot finish these tasks until the existing edition's tasks aren't finished. I am sure that these editions will be released in a few months after final releases of the WinForms and ASP.NET Editions. Thank you for your understanding.
